Cemetery Committee Activities Update

At our latest meeting on Thursday, March 15, 2012, the following four activities were initiated.

Please note that the “Garage Sale” will require helpers to set-up in advance.  Bettie and Shirley Young who are running the quilt auction could use some folks to assist them at the times noted.  Please review all activities and let me know which of them you are available to assist.

CEMETERY FUND

Monsignor Farmer has agreed to the creation of a “St. John Cemetery” fund within our parish budget.

All funds deposited into this fund will be directed solely to the maintenance and future development of the cemetery.

In an effort to capture the attention of the entire parish and all parishioners,

a second collection will be taken at all weekend Masses on Saturday and Sunday, April 21 and 22nd.

All funds collected will go directly into this fund.

The committee, under the direction of Jennifer Seppi, is in the process of preparing a parish bulletin insert consisting of pictures and vital historical data about our St. John Cemetery.  This insert will be placed in the Church bulletin the previous weekend of April 14 and 15 – the week before the cemetery fund collection takes place.

A cemetery fund announcement will be included in the announcements at the end of all Masses this same weekend.

ST. JOHN CEMETERY COLUMBARIUM

Special recognition is extended to Steve Sinnott who has provided us with a huge amount of his research data consisting of specific facts obtained from personal interviews with individuals who have purchased such structures,  pictures, various sizes, installation costs and location of existing structures currently erected at other nearby cemeteries.  He has set the stage for investigation into such a structure at our cemetery.  Thank you, Steve, for putting in a significant amount of time and data gathering for the committee.

Monsignor Farmer has discussed the possibility of such a structure in our cemetery with me and we have agreed to gather data and begin to research the feasibility / consideration of our parish erecting one.   Together with the data supplied by Steve, the committee will expand its fact gathering as well as consult with various manufacturers on site to examine an appropriate location and estimated cost of various size structures and share this information with the Pastoral Council and Monsignor.
